Funicular Railway reopened in January 2023

The Cairngorm’s are Scotland’s favourite mountain destination so we are delighted that the 2km funicular railway has reopened this year.  Taking skiers to the highest slopes, or just as sightseeing trips for walkers and climbers, it’s definitely worth a visit.

Fancy a go at Stand Up Paddleboarding?

Have you had a go on a SUP yet?  Stand Up Paddleboarding has really taken off of late and there are plently opportunities to give it a try in Aviemore.  You can arrange lessons and/or hire equipment at Loch Morlich or Loch Inch, both good options if you have your own board too.  We had a great day at Loch an Eilein this summer, swimming and paddleboarding around the island that is home to  castle ruins that date back to 14th century.

Aviemore hosts the biggest race in the British Sled Dog Racing Calendar

An annual event on the second last weekend in January, the annual sled dog race is a tremendous sight.  The arrival of over 1000 huskies and their owners for the weekend creates a buzz whatever the weather.  Racing on snow where conditions allow or on three-wheeled rigs, the races are exciting to watch and a great spectacle for all the family.  2020 was the 37th anniversary of the event which will return again in January 2021.

Tubing on Cairngorm Moutain

A new addition to the mountain sports available at Cairngorm, tubing in definitely worth a try and so much fun!  The 70 metre, high-speed Slide features two parabolic turns and you’ll speed down the slide on sit-down snow-tubes.

Winter Sports on Cairngorm Mountain

Seasoned skier, or just a beginner…….or perhaps you want to try snowboarding?  Cairngorm mountain has slopes to suit all ability levels and is a fun way to enjoy the snow.  Lessons are available if you need hem and a hot drink or food from the Cas Bar is always a nice way to finish an active session.

What a beautiful walk by the River Spey, ideal for four legged friends and very atmospheric on a misty autumn morning……..our dogs love this walk which is just a few minutes walk from Linmore and close to the Spey Valley Championship Golf Course.

Platform 3 on Aviemore Station is where all timetabled services of the Strathspey Railway depart from. Aviemore is located in the heart of the Cairngorm Mountains and is the perfect location for those who enjoy the outdoors and spectacular views. The train takes you past heather-clad moors and woodland travelling parallel with the Speyside way. Five miles further along the line the train stops at Boat of Garten.

Strathspey Steam Railway

Aviemore Train Station is a short walk from Linmore and is the ideal point to start your journey on the Strathspey Steam Railway which travels Aviemore-Boat of Garden-Broomhill.  Brought back to life in 1978 by a dedicated group of volunteers, this ten mile restored section of the original Highland Railway Line enables you to travel back in time to an era when steam whistles blew , carriage doors slammed shut and there was a familiar click-clack, rhythm of the rails, as the train travels along the track.  Book a ticket by following the link below.

The Cairngorm Reindeer Herd.

The Cairngorm Reindeer Herd is Britain’s only free-ranging herd of reindeer found in the Cairngorm mountains in Scotland. These tame and friendly animals are a joy to all who come and see them. Reindeer are not just for Christmas!

There are currently around 150 reindeer in the herd, mostly ranging on the Cairngorm Mountains with the remainder on the Glenlivet Estate, the locations being some 30 miles apart.

Strathspey Steam Railway – Travel 10 miles from Aviemore to Broomhill
